Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Peru, along with countries beyond South America like Australia, France, Switzerland, and Russia, are represented at this international event.
From October 29 to November 1, the desert dunes of northern Chile will become the stage for a high-impact event: the Sudamerican Sandboard Championship 2025. This milestone competition will bring together 50 athletes from countries such as Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Chile, alongside riders from Australia, France, Switzerland, and Russia—making it a truly global gathering.
Organized by the Club Sandboard Desierto Extremo and the Sandboard Chile Association, in collaboration with InterSands – International Sandboarding and Sandski Association, the championship celebrates not only athletic excellence but also the growth of a transcontinental sandboarding community.
Categories and Disciplines
The event will feature two categories: Adult and Junior, with three competitive disciplines designed to test skill, speed, and aerial prowess:
Sandboardcross: a fast-paced obstacle race across the dunes.
Parallel Slalom: head-to-head duels on winding tracks.
Big Jump (Big Air): gravity-defying jumps judged for height, style, and execution.
An international jury (France, Peru, Chile) will evaluate performances.
International Projection
Since 2023, InterSands and the Club Sandboard Desierto Extremo have been working together to shape this championship as a strategic bridge between South America and Europe. With its global expertise, InterSands proposed Chile as the host of a regional event that would serve as a launchpad for South American athletes, linking them directly to the European Sandboard Championship. This initiative strengthens technical development and organizational standards across the region, while fostering cultural and athletic exchange between continents—reinforcing InterSands’ commitment to inclusive and sustainable growth of the sport worldwide.
Two of the winners (male and female) of the South American Sandboard Championship will receive a trip to Germany to participate in the 2026 European Sandboard Championship.
More Than a Sport: A Growing Culture
Born in the dunes and shaped by passionate local communities, sandboarding has evolved into a sport with its own identity. Antofagasta, with its privileged geography and desert heritage, aims to position itself as South America’s sandboarding capital—while acknowledging Huacachina-Ica in Peru, long considered the world capital of sandboarding thanks to its spectacular dunes, tourism infrastructure, and its role as host of two editions of the InterSands Sandboard World Cup. The Sudamerican Championship will attract not only athletes, but also media, sponsors, and enthusiasts who see sandboarding as a vibrant expression of freedom, technique, and connection to nature.
